Foundation of European Bowhunting Association
The European Bowhunting Association (EBA) announces its formal foundation, which took place May 23rd, 2003 in Helsinki, Finland.
“The aim of our association is to organize European bowhunters into a strong network to increase opportunities for hunting with our weapon of choice,” says President-elect Anders Gejer. He has been involved with bowhunting issues for more than 25 years and has hunted frequently in numerous different parts in the world. He has also been instrumental in advancing the acceptance of bowhunting in his native Sweden where it is presently in a test phase.“Generally, we see a huge need for information to all hunting-related groups. Our main task in the coming year will be to promote better understanding aboutbowhunting and the many advantages it offers over conventional hunting methods.”
EBA Vice president is Jean-Pierre Bullan of France. France has the largest number of bowhunters in Europe, currently estimated at 10,000. Jean-Pierre has a long and thorough knowledge of bowhunting both in France as well as abroad. He has been instrumental in the development of the French bowhunter education course based on the National Bowhunter Education Foundation materials.
The new Secretary is Juha Kylma of Finland. He is also the current president of the Finnish Bowhunters Association and is spearheading efforts to perpetuate bowhunting in Finland. Within the past year it has become possible for Finns to hunt roedeer as well as beaver with bow and arrow.
